Empowering Graduates: Enhancing Career-Readiness in Higher Education

Wednesday 1st November 2023, 13:00 AEDT

Wednesday 1st November 2023Wednesday 1st November 2023

How we can better prepare students for the world of work by embedding employability into the curriculum.

In this Universities Accord year, and with rising expectations from students, parents, employers and governing bodies, how can institutions successfully incorporate employability into higher education?

Join us for a panel discussion as we explore ways to support students who are identifying their career path. This is particularly important for students who are taking what are often referred to as ‘generalist’ courses, where the career path is not always immediately clear.

Our panellists will discuss elements of effective approaches to embedding employability equitably through curricula, authentic assessment and co-curricular programs, and suggest ways to support students to recognise, evidence and articulate their transferable skill development.

Redesigning Assessment for an Ever-Changing World

Tuesday 14th March 2023, 08:30 GMT

Tuesday 14th March 2023Tuesday 14th March 2023

An opportunity to improve the way we assess learning. Speakers will be joining from the UK and Australia.

UK Time: 08:30 am (GMT)

Melbourne/Sydney Time: 19:30 pm (AEDT)

Has the alarm surrounding AI tools such as ChatGPT pushed assessment redesign to the top of your agenda? Join us for a discussion on the challenges presented by AI and the opportunity to tackle issues with authentic assessment as a better way to evaluate student learning and provide personalised feedback.

Dr Stefan Popenici, Charles Darwin University published Artificial Intelligence and Learning Futures: Critical Narratives of Technology and Imagination in Higher Education in November 2022. The book examines the risks of AI in education and curriculum design as well as highlighting the opportunities to improve the quality of higher learning.

Join Stefan and leading authentic assessment experts from PebblePad to unpick the risks AI poses to Higher Education and discuss how a sustainable approach to assessment practices can surface the process of learning and move beyond the assessment of knowledge and facts to the application of knowledge in context.

Transforming Placement Portfolios at ATU

Wednesday 25th January 2023, 14:00 GMT

Wednesday 25th January 2023Wednesday 25th January 2023

Transforming practice placement: ATU on how students’ eportfolios are "jewels of creativity" which capture their unique learning journeys.

Are you responsible for mandatory clinical practice placement at your institution? Join us for insights on how to implement a successful portfolio-based practice placement that gives students ownership of their learning.

In 2022, the Medical Science department at ATU (formerly GMIT)  won a LearnSci Teaching Innovation Award for their use of eportfolios to evidence student learning. The Honours degree programme is accredited by the ACSLM (Ireland) by the IBMS (UK) and validated by CORU.

Join Helen Cregg and Dr Joan O’Keeffe, Lecturers in Medical Science at ATU Galway City, to hear how using eportfolios allows students to easily capture their experiences and evidence development of skills during mandatory practice in a hospital laboratory.

This initiative supported students in the creation of individual portfolios that capture their unique learning journeys spanning five different laboratory departments and the completion of 1000 hours of clinical placement.
